Your next step would be to get involved with a web host that will assist you in the designing/building of your website around your interests and ideas. There are a few great ones out there. I would suggest that you take a look at several options. First compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. Doing this will ensure that you find the host that will fit your needs and get you the most out of your money. I personally enjoy the services of http://www.customized-by-you.com They have a great tutorial video on their site that explains the proper design/structure of a successful website.
My husband and I started our home based business over six years ago offering various different telecommunications services and cellular phones and plans at whole sale costs through the Internet as well as word of mouth. We both work out of our home around our children's school and sports activities. We got involved in an International telecommunications service provider that was started back in 1993. It's a 15 year old, world wide company that's in numerous countries. It's the largest direct selling telecommunications service provider in the world. With headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Charlotte, Amsterdam, Sydney and Montreal.
They have been featured in several magazines like USA Today, Success, Fortune etc. Inc 500 rated them the 22nd fastest growing company in revenue in it's first five years. They are registered with the BBB as well.
They market in services people use every day and pay for anyway. Services like Local and Long Distance telephones, Internet, Digital, video phones, Satellite TV, and all the major cellular phone companies like T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Nextell, Altell etc with the latest plans and most popular equipment. You help put them on a new 2 year contract plan or upgrading and extending an existing contracts through all the major cellular phone providers. You also help them save money on all their other telecommunication needs as well as Satellite TV. Every single month these people pay their bills, you make a percentage over and over again each month.
How many people do you know, or know of around the world that uses one or more of these services or products? . A lot of money involved in this industry.

So there's one idea for you. There's a lot of different things you can sale on the Internet.
The ideas need to come from you. Ive been setting people up on internet for as long as its been called internet. I can tell you how to setup an impressive website for free. You can sell anything you want on commission thru the tons of affiliate programs available.
But such sites make it or fail based on the attention of the owner. Pick a subject, choose affiliate items, get a free website, make a webpage, get it on search engines, make money. Any subject. It can be an item, hobby, games, craft, sport, pet, location, lifestyle, any subject at all. I dont care if its collecting unicorns or watching hummingbirds. It can be something you know a lot about or it can be something you WANT to know a lot about. Is there something that you bug your friends because when you get on the topic you talk about it way too much?
Lets say that its golf. You setup a web page then you search for affiliations on the topic of golf. You can offer golf equipment, training videos, books, funny tshirts with golf sayings on them, etc etc.
Then you need to get attention to your site. You can try out and write reviews on everything you offer on your site. You can link to news and how-to articles about golf. You can add a discussion forum about golf, you can do a newsletter that people sign up for which covers hot golf news items (and mentions new items in your shop). Do you begin to see why it needs to be something you love?
A couple of strong affiliate programs are Amazon.com and CafePress.com, or you can go to CommissionJunction or LinkShare to shop thru their affiliates. These work because the companies know that a "golf" site is better for selling "golf" items. Check those out and think "can I pitch this better than they are pitching it".
Whatever subject you pick, you can make it THE site to go to for information on that subject. Those are the sites that work. The ones that the person is in love with. When you get a subject, come back and ask how you can build an internet biz around it.
Steve,
I would suggest that the answer lies within you. You know your interests. I would say yes you could start a business around anyone or all of those interests. There are many ways to make money online and selling a service or product is just a portion of the ways to monetize. If you would like to get some information from a web hosts perspective you can look at http://videotour.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html.
I assure you that this is not an MLM. This is a well known web host who had proven methods of building top notch websites.
I hope the information will spark some ideas.
I partnered with a company about four years ago and have been very pleased with them. I love being able to work from home, Plus they are members of the BBB which was important to me with all the scams out there.
I dont have to Stock Inventory or sell products nor do I have to take orders, deliver anything or get stung with bad checks when making collections … Did that in the past, NOT again!
If you want more information about them I would be happy to share. Just send me an email and let me know.
It just might give you the options you are looking for.
Why not present a business plan using Ebay as your "internet business?" Present the actual costs you will incur with listing fees, packaging materials, paypal fees, etc. and build a model assuming $1.00 and $2.00 garage sale finds with projected sales from $3.00 up to $10.00 and project your sales starting from one or two sales a day to 5-6 a day to 10 a day. Even with $2.00 of profit per sale and 20 sales a day, that's $40 a day of profit x 30 days a month = $1200. Now, make sure to account for the taxes, supplies and fees, and other expenses. Outline the importance of good record keeping and taking tax credits and deductions for a home based business, mileage, mailing costs, etc. and you'll find more profit than loss making an Ebay business (if run legally) a pretty decent business to promote with low overhead and low risk. When you write the business plan, be realistic. Nobody is going to believe you can start out with 100 sales a day at $10 in profit although eventually that would be possible with offering the right product at the right price at the right time.
I didn’t think there were any sites with content this good. There sure is a lot of trash out there online. I’ll definitely be back to check out future posts…Thanks

The way to sell online:
1. Locate your customers
2. Find qualified leads
3. Figure out delivery
4. Market to the most interested groups
